About ISUM
International Sports University, Maharashtra (ISUM) is a State University established under the Maharashtra International Sports University Act, 2020 at Balewadi, Pune.
The official name of the university is International Sports University, Maharashtra (ISUM). It is a State University of the Government of Maharashtra with headquarters at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mahalunge–Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra – 411045. The University Grants Commission lists ISUM as a State University at this address.
ISUM was established under the Maharashtra International Sports University Act, 2020 (Maharashtra Act No. XXXV of 2020). The Act received assent on 28 December 2020 and created a specialised university — the first of its kind in the State — to prepare competent personnel in sport.
The University advances sports education, employment and training; produces quality coaches, trainers and athletes; and strengthens Maharashtra’s sporting ecosystem through teaching, research, high-performance support and international collaboration.
Legal character
The University is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal. Headquarters are in Pune. The Act permits campuses, colleges, regional centres and study centres subject to prescribed approvals, including Government and UGC approval for centres outside the State.
Academic identity
ISUM offers specialised education in physical education, sports sciences, sports medicine, sports technology, sports governance, sports management, sports media and communication, coaching and high-performance training. Flagship undergraduate programmes include the Bachelor of Sports Science and the Bachelor of Sports Management.
Campus
The Balewadi campus is located at a venue that hosted the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games and continues to serve national and international competition. Students train and study in an environment that unites classrooms, laboratories and elite sporting infrastructure.
